Key Janus Executive is Leaving

Jim Craig, the chief investment officer and director of research at Janus of Denver, will leave the firm at the end of September after having been with Janus the past 17 years.

Janus' executive investment committee will assume Craig's responsibilities.

Craig is joining The Craig Family Foundation, a charitable trust that his wife, Rebecca Craig, has founded to help the disadvantaged in the Denver area.

Craig has been instrumental to the growth of Janus, said Tom Bailey, chief executive officer of Janus, in a statement.

Craig's departure comes on the heels of the spin-off of Janus and three other financial subsidiaries from Kansas City Southern Industries into Stilwell Financial, both of Kansas City, Mo. (MFMN 7/17/00) Janus has publicly protested its affiliation with the three other firms and there has been much speculation over how the firm and its executives will respond to the reorganization.

Craig said a charitable foundation has been a dream of his and his wife's for some time.
