Federated Investors has appointed CIO William D. Dawson as vice chairman of its investment advisory companies and named three portfolio managers as CIOs.

Dawson has been with Federated for 28 years, while the three new CIOs bring a combined 60 years of investment experience to their new positions at Federated.

NorthStar Board Adds Gula, Vielehr, Freyberg

Three high-profile executives were added to NorthStar's advisory board, the company announced.

Allen J. Gula of Franklin Resources, Byron Vielehr, formerly of Merrill Lynch, and Richard Freyberg, formerly of Schwab, were all named to the board of the wealth management firm.

Gula, who still serves as advisor to the office of the chairman at Franklin, had also been Franklin's president and CIO previously. He served as executive vice president while at KeyCorp. and has more than 28 years of financial services industry experience.

Vielehr recently served as the chief technology officer at Merrill's U.S. private client group and has worked as a vice president for Strong Capital Management.

Freyberg, the 30-year financial services veteran, has left his position as CIO of Schwab Capital Markets and senior vice president of Schwab Services for Investment Managers to serve on the NorthStar board.
