Obituary- Erick Kanter Passes Away at 62

Erick Kanter, founder and president of Kanter & Associates and for more than a decade a public relations executive with the Investment Company Institute, died Nov. 23 of a brain aneurysm. His passing away at age 62 was sudden and unexpected, his firm said.

Kanter, a well-respected industry veteran, founded his public relations firm specializing in investment management in 1995 after having served as head of the public information and marketing department at the ICI for 11 years. During that time, he became a familiar face on business television and founded the ICI's Journalism Awards Program for Excellence in Personal Finance Reporting, in cooperation with American University.

Prior to joining the fund industry 20 years ago, Kanter held a number of senior public information positions with the U.S. government, including the Federal Wage-Price Control Program and the White House Conference on Balanced National Growth and Economic Development. He also helped direct public information campaigns for the President's Commission on the Coal Industry and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and served as a Navy public information officer in Saigon and the Pentagon during the Vietnam War.

Kanter began his career in journalism as a reporter with Newsweek's Houston bureau and is listed in Who's Who in America and Who's Who in the World.
